Daniel Powers is composer-in-residence with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, and teaches composition and music theory at Indiana State University.
He has degrees in composition from Oberlin College and Indiana University. His teachers have included Rudi Martinus Van Dijk, Joseph Wood, Earle Brown, Fred Fox, and Harvey Sollberger.
He is married to pianist Martha Krasnican, who also teaches at Indiana State University.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play viola in the Terre Haute Symphony and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. I occasionally play in chamber groups of various types.
Your musical influences
Brahms, Bach, Debussy, Ned Rorem, Lou Harrison, John Adams, Mahler, Oregon (especially Ralph Towner), ancient music of various kinds, world music (especially African and Indian), and whatever I happen to be listening to at the moment.
