Coogan are a Techno Dance duo based in Welwyn Garden City, England, and comprise of Jennifer Nicholls (Drums, Synthesizers, Vocals) and partner David Molyneux (Synthesizers, Programming, Vocals)
Band/artist history
Coogan were formed shortly after Jennifer and David met in late 2007. Both are trained actors and met on set as both were cast in an episode of Midsomer Murders. Jennifer's love of all things 1980's and David's dedication to bands such as New Order and Kraftwerk was the catalyst to them forming Coogan.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Jennifer: We have yet to play live but hope to do so during the early stages of 2009.
Your musical influences
Jennifer: My primary influences vocally are both Kate Bush and Carly Simon. I am also a huge fan of 1980's music, especially the 'New Romantic' era. The clothes and the music were amazing. David has been an electronic music fan since the first occasion he heard Kraftwerk during the mid 1970's. Since then he has developed a huge passion for several bands of that genre including Ultravox, The Pet Shop Boys, Gary Numan and New Order. David is well documented as being a 'super fan' of New Order having seen them play live on more than 140 separate occasions between 1981 and 1989!
What equipment do you use?
David: We use both real drums, electronic drum pads, and several drum machines which I have had since buying them new during the 1980's. They include a Roland TR707, TR909 and a Drumatix. I love the sounds they make, and the simplicity of using them with my sequencers. As far as synthesizers go I use a Moog Rogue. The bass sound they make is unparalleled in my opinion. I am also a proud owner of an Arp Odyssey, which one of my heroes Billy Currie used to use in Ultravox, which makes some mighty raw and emotional sounds.
