I have been writing original lyrics and singing since childhood - from the days when my Aunt would stand me up to sing for her friends, to singing at weddings, with the praise team, and in the church choir. My favorite time to sing is in prayer to the LORD. I often write about lifes experiences, so my lyrics speak to the heart.
Cheryl has performed her original songs at church during service; some songs have been sung by the Praise & Worship Team during service, some have been sung by vocalists at local gospel concerts.
I have been writing songs, poetry, and more, for as long as I can remember. In elementary school, I wrote the graduating class' song to the tune of "Old Lang Zyne". As an adult, I have written quite a collection of original Christian songs in many genres, especially, Contemporary Christian, Contemporary Gospel, Traditional gospel, Praise & Worship and what I call Urban Young Folk (smile). In 2002, I was so honored to win a Runner Up in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest out of thousands of entries with a song titled, "Give A Little Bit" in the Inspiration category. I felt affirmed as a writer and inspired to reach out to recording artists and other Christian music ministries. My first demo is 4 original songs which have been recorded by local talent. They did an outstanding job giving life to the songs the LORD inspired me to write. I 've posted those songs here; I hope they inspire & encourage you!
I grew up to Carol King, Elvis, the BeeGees, Quincy Jones & Motown. Aretha Franklin, Patty LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack, and the Emotions shaped my vocals. Gospel inspiration came from Dottie Rambo, Andrea Crouch, the Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Helen Baylor, as well as Marvin Sapp, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams and Antonio Neal.
My little keyboard. My vocals, hands, mind, and Spirit.
Please add my music to your site and if you like the songs and have any friends in the industry, let them know about me!
