Cat Astral
I make music to express the inner reflection of reality that endlessly echoes its notes in my brain.
Your musical influences
I enjoy artists that get a little experimental and meld different instruments and sounds while carrying a good melody, kicking a good, steady beat, a funky break or a mellow up-tempo tap and surrounding it all in a hip-hop or trip-hoppy skin. I'll even take in a little jazz, rock and reggae influence while I'm at it. Lately I'm really into Beck, MGMT, MIA, James, KENNEDY, Matisyahu, Roisin Murphy and such...plus I've always enjoyed stuff like Sublime and The LBZ, DJ Shadow, DJ Spooky and a lot of underground hiphop, dub and drum-n-bass; I also like jazz and old-style crooners, big band standards and oldies like Frank Sinatra, Lois Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Sam Cooke, the Four Tops and so on; and I can't forget my early-on rock influences like Johnny Cash, Jim Croce, the Doors, Pink Floyd, The Who, Live, Rage Against the Machine, Floater, Nick Cave, and MANY MANY MANY more. I'm not saying I'll sound like any of these people but they're some of the artists I've learned things from.
What equipment do you use?
Fruity Loops, Adobe Audition, Casio TONEBANK CT-650 Oldschool Keyboard, Shure SM58 Mic, all hooked into a Dell Dimension 8100 except the keyboard which I don't have the necessary hardware for yet.
Anything else?
Yeah, hey, what's up.
