Don't judge a book by its cover ! Carolinaz Finest has been in the music industry for 13 years as a producer and artist as well a DJ...all of the while he was serving in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division. After sustaining two major injuries, he was medically retired and now is taking his music to a whole new level. He is originally from Goldsboro N.C. but currently works out of Nashville, TN and Baltimore MD....but reps N.C. to the fullest! He is an artist and producer as well as a DJ for Beats 2 Ride Entertainment. He talks about life experiences and reality when it comes to making a record, but is capable of making the club pop at the drop of a dime. He is true to himself and as an artist when it comes to his music and never pretends to be something he is not...Bottom Line, he keeps it real. This U.S. Army Combat Veteran has traveled the world and encountered many experiences that are shared through his music. Carolinaz Finest has opened up for acts such as 3-6 Mafia, Keisha Cole, Amerie, Young Buck, Eight Ball & MjG, UGK, DJ Kaled, Slim Thug, Little Brother, 112, and Naughty by Nature and recently fellow Carolinian J. Cole just to name a few. He has been featured in many magazines, and various TV outlets. Carolinaz Finest doesn't ''look'' or seem like your average rapper but can certainly go toe to toe with anyone in the industry. He has several projects in the works , but his new album "Free Agent" will be available on Itunes and in stores later this year. In the meantime, he is busy cooking up tracks for other Artist and guest DJ's at various functions around the country.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yeah, all over the place....I am high energy on stage and people feed off of it. Its real funny because when I step on the stage...people are looking like "who is this white dude in Khakis and a polo" thinking I am a joke....But soon as the music drops they see I'm not ! When I was in the military , I was deployed in Mosul, Iraq and they had these girls fly in to provide entertainment, they were awful, people were booing and leaving. I went to the stage manager and said "you gotta get me on dude" . The man said " when they go on break you can come up, I hope you are good" . I was ALWAYS prepared with all my music and literally took over the show in front of 2000 fellow Soldiers and shut it down !...after about the 3rd song we ended up taking mortar fire and everyone had to run for cover...it was crazy, like something you would see on a movie ! I was like a celebrity after that...LoL...even in Iraq! I will never forget that. Support your Troops people.
Your musical influences
My mom would always listen to the Temptations, 4 Topps, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, and a lot of Motown and Beach music when I was growing up. I remember her getting mad at me because I was always trying to scratch her records on this huge turntable we had. But I love music with a lot of instruments and make my music as soulful as possible. The music you hear now is so simple , a simple drum here, little melody there, throw in a dance to go with it...and people love it ! I am not hating, it just isn't for me.
What equipment do you use?
Roland Fantom , MPC 1000, Korg Triton, Reason , FL8, Cool edit pro
Anything else?
I just try to make good music that comes from the heart that normal everyday people can relate to. I think many artist out now try to sound like somebody else, or ride a trend instead of creating their own identity and own style. I am gonna be me no matter what....believe that ! God Bless
Those productions are off the chain how often you in Raleigh-Durham.
