Greetings! I hope you will take a moment to watch the video to Call to Conscience, here or in hi-res on youtube. I'll tell you about these songs, but please don't let that scare you away from listening to them. My songs were written to draw attention to the severe persecution that's been taking place in China since 1999 against practitioners of the gentle qigong practice Falun Gong. I started practicing Falun Gong in 2002 after an acupuncturist I'd been seeing for shoulder and back surf injuries told me I'd never need to see her again if I tried this practice. I was skeptical, but since it was free, I went to a local exercise site. What she said turned out to be true...I never needed to see her again for treatment! Since I've been practicing Falun Gong freely in the U.S., practitioners in China have been tortured, murdered, and even forcibly had their organs removed and sold for profit. On the threshold of the Olympics in Beijing, these crimes against humanity are still taking place in China. Because so many major media outlets are either sponsoring the Olympics or seek to maintain good relations with China for the sake of business, information about the persecution has been censored out of the news. This is an attempt to get the word out, despite the major media blackout. Recorded on Garage Band with only a midi and cheap walkman headphones, this album is part of the story of Falun Gong cultivation practice and the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Thank you for listening. Please help spread the word towards ending the persecution.
Band/artist history
I started recording these songs in 2005-2006. Most of them were written in about a day, and then there was a little time for polishing. I basically sat on them all this time wondering, if with all the imperfections, people could look past those and pick up on the serious issues the songs were trying to raise. One day, desperate to buy a decent set of headphones, I went to the Guitar Center. I brought my CD with me so I could hear how the sounds balanced, outside my cheap headphones. To my surprise, the guys helping me with the headphones liked my songs, thought this was a good effort, and encouraged me to get them out.
Your musical influences
Each song is very different, and has a description to go with it. In the future, I'd like to improve my technical skills and try other styles.
What equipment do you use?
Mostly heart, plus Garage Band, a midi keyboard, headphones and a mic.
Anything else?
People hear a lot about human rights problems related to China--animal abuse, toxic products, Tibet, Darfur, Zimbabwe, Burma (Myanmar), Christians, Uighur Muslims, etc., but the persecution of Falun Gong is the most downplayed by corporate media, for political and economic reasons. Falun Gong is the most sensitive issue for the Communist party and they are most afraid of Falun Gong. When the horrible things they have unceasingly done to practitioners sees the light of day in a big way, the Chinese Communist party will crumble.
