Bobby Ray Vig is a bassist/composer from Jacksonville, FL - currently active in 3 or 4 different bands of various genres: Laurence Walden & The Jazz Connection (jazz), B.P. Express (classic rock & blues), River City Pilgrims (bluegrass) and Legacy (lounge/jazz/standards).
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Growing up in Vero Beach, FL, started musical journey on trumpet, graduated to guitar and finally bass. Early bands included OakenDagger and OASIS (*NOT* the British band of the same name - this "OASIS" was a Vero Beach "fusion" band from way back in 1981). Settled in Jacksonville in 1995 where, after a period of several years as a photographer re-discovered music roots and have worked with various local-outfits including Cheshire Cats, Jim Mack Big Band (including appearances at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival) and Walden's Jazz Connection. Electric Bass (Washburn 6-string, Carvin 5-string, Fender 4-string Jazz/Precision "hybrid"), 2 Acoustic Upright Basses (1 w/Realist pickup), Ampeg and Acoustic Image amplification, Sansamp DI-box, AKG C1000S mic.
