HUMBLE & HUNGRY: Then and Now Both an accomplished performer and enthusiastic emcee, Big-K (Kenny Johnson), has wowed crowds as he continues to establish himself in the industry. As a free-spoken rapper/producer hailing from the New Jersey/New York area, Big-K brings a style to be noticed. Discovered in the summer of 2008 in San Francisco, CA. While helping create a positive song for a youth organization, Larkin Street Youth Services. Soon after Big-K and three other hip-hop artists formed the group "Da Business Men". It was from this exposure that Kenny Johnson, a.k.a Big-K, got a jump-start in his career. With much support from Larkin Street Youth Services, with the use of there recording studio, they were able to bring there vision to life, with the release of there single "Changin Phazes" with a video produced as well. As an up and coming artist, Big-K is looking to leave his audience in awe and wanting more. After the unofficial release of Da Business Men's cd "Mixtape 2008", Big-K stepped away from the stage and took a break from recording for most of 2009. Now as he is back in the studio and working on projects with bay area producer/rapper/writer Tony Jazzo and executive producer Rob Reason of A, Roc Records. Big-K was "drafted'â and signed by Bay Area indie label, Rob Reason of Anatta Roc Records/Tru Self Entertainment, in January 2010. His talent can be witnessed in Rob Reason/A. Roc Records release of PROVERBIAL MASACRE: The Mixtape, (release April 2010). Currently heâs in the studio working on his upcoming debut release, âœWhat's Tha Hypeâ - featuring tracks produced Rob Reason, Tony Jazzo and more.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I perform in the Bay Area at such venues like; Glas Kat, Rock-It-Room, Retox Lounge, Academy of Arts Theatre, plus various open mic's in San Francisco. In Union City,CA I had a show at Menconi's Lounge, in Oakland threw a CD Release Party at Luka's Lounge, and had a great time putting on a show for my fans down in San Jose, CA at Johnny V's
Your musical influences
First and foremost my mother. Growing up my mom working at radio stations surrounded me with the atmosphere. Many past artist have been influences such as: 2pac, Run-DMC, Sugar Hill Gang, and The Fugees. Along with present day artist like: T.I., Lil Wayne, The Jacka, and others.
What equipment do you use?
I use a small recording studio that work at. Record on Pro Tools and beats produced on Resao, for short
