Funk

For Andre Minor, expression for this soulful artist began in the form of words, penning lyrics at the tender age of 8. Thus began his involvement in music. Unable to put melodies to the lyrics at the time, he would merely transform them to poetry. 4 years later, Andre developed a relationship with guitar playing that not only increased his yearning to create music but synthesized the words in his mind and the melodies in his soul. He wasn’t only making music, he brought his unique style of music to life. When Andre began singing in an endless number of choirs starting in middle school., he made sure his guitar followed every step of the way, honing his skills during some very critical years. Among his developing talents, teaching himself how to play the piano was added to the list. Andre’s influences range from Classical to Country musicians, however the majority of his personal style is found in Rock-n-Roll, Alternative Rock, and R&B. This is made more evident by each song he creates. What separates Andre’s musicality is his ability to blend these elements of Alternative and R&B. Incorporate his voice which appeals to both the younger and older audience, a unique sound comes forth. A sound all his own. Throughout his life, Andre has trained vocally in various styles, including Classical, Rhythm and Blues and Jazz. He’s also learned to pluck strings in Flamenco, Jazz , Rock and Rhythm and Blues styles as well. Andre Minor has developed a uniquely soulful yet edgy sound and boasts a bittersweet song writing talent - both of which he says has been influenced by not only his life experiences and the lives of others but also many great musicians of the past. Among one of his many goals - to pay homage to those who influenced him through his music.

Have you performed in front of an audience?
I love to play live. I have play live in NYC, NJ,CO,TX, SC, and hopefully soon the UK. I have also performed on BET's Wild-n-Out Wednesday. I remember my first big performance in New Jersey. It was about a crowd of over 300 and at the time, I had never played for a crowd that big before. MY first song was a song I wrote on acoustic guitar and I remember being so nervous. However as soon as I sang the first notes everyone stared screaming (in a good way) lol. Even though I was getting such a positive reaction from the crowd, I still kept my eyes closed, but I remember looking up and seeing hundreds of cell phone lights waving back and forth in the dark! lol That was a special moment. Another special moment was when I performed on BET. It was my first national broadcast and I thought that I would be really nervous but actually I was very comfortable. It seems like the bigger the venue the more relaxed I become. I took that that experience that I know that I belong in the profession that I have chosen.
Your musical influences
Where nto begin. As a musician, I think that there is always that first song you hear that totally opens you up to a whole new dimension fo thinking. For me it was "Superstitious" by Stevie Wonder. Thats what I grew up on. Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, George Benson. I have been fortunate that life had gave me the chance to associate with many different walks of life and my music plays a big part into that. So from each part of my life so far I have picked up a lot of influences. Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Eric Clapton, The Roots, The Beatles, Lenny Kravitz, B.B.King, Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughn. There is just so many; and you will hear that in my music. I only listed soul because you can only click one. I call my style "Alternative Soul"
What equipment do you use?
As an instrumentalist I use an Ovation Celebrity Shallow bowl, A Squire Bass (Fender makes it so its good) lol. Any brand of piano, I like how different brands of pianos give you different feels to songs. When I am producing MPC 2000XL, Furity Loops Producer Edition, Motif Rack, Triton, ProTools!
Anything else?
Enjoy my sound let me know what you think, what you feel.
