I attend jams and open mics in and around the Comox Valley, Port Alberni, Campbell River, Black Creek, Qualicum Bay, Nanaimo, Shawnigan Lake, Victoria, Vancouver, and Kelowna, and places in between.
I just get on stage singing my original lyrics and play my 1969 Gibson EB-3 bass or my custom built 6-string. Other musicians join me and add to the music. For whoever is interested and would like to further their musical experience in the fine art of composing original music, be it playing along with me and adding your interpretation to the tunes, or composing your own with a group of your friends, the object here is to encourage original music at the open mic jams. Having the total freedom to play what you deem will fit the song, is cherished by the jammers, and through the process of natural selection, the best musicians shine through and the result is a new composition. This could progress to an induction into a network of fine talent, from which players can organize a band or even a gig situation in your favorite venue.
Bring your instrument and let’s jam! I may have time to do about 40 original songs and may even compose one or two on the spot. The song-list will probably reflect some country-rock, pop, jazz, blues, and rock influences.
There may even be a good recording obtained during the night, which will be available as a CD or MP3 for your future enjoyment and for promoting this idea to other musicians and club owners who might find this concept exciting and creative.
