Excerpt from MySpace page: "I go by the pseudonym, OMalik "El Rompe Cabina". I was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico in 1978. At the age of 8, my parents moved to New York City. Growing up in the Bronx, I started playing with turntables at the age of 12 when a local DJ and friend, introduced me to the art. (Thanks Jav, I owe you one.) After that initial introduction, the natural love of art took over. I practically went over to his house everyday after that to play with the turntables until I could mix and scratch. I then gradually moved into production and sound engineering, which led me to the Institute of Audio Research in NYC where I got certified as a sound engineer. After witnessing computers become a major part of the record creating process, I enlisted at Monroe College in New Rochelle, where I earned a BA in Computer Information Systems. Most of my influences come from the music my siblings and parents listened to while I was growing up in PR and then later in the Bronx (Salsa, Merengue, Pop, Freestyle, blah, blah, blah!). My mother is a dedicated catholic, and she sang for our local church for many years. There are many musicians in the family as well and most are self taught, so it was natural for me to embrace this art form."
