Mark was born in Louisiana, raised in Oklahoma and now lives in Texas. It seems he has been involved in music most of his life winning the school talent show as a first grader, writing his first song in Jr. High School and continuing to this day to perform, write and record.
A trip to Nashville one Christmas in 1985 inspired him to become more serious about the music business. Jackson Brumley told Mark the quickest way into the music business was to write a hit song. Eventually Mark was encouraged to move to Nashville with a chance to write with some top songwriters of the day. But with a family to provide for, opted for the financial security the teaching profession offered.
Mark teamed up with Zane Trusty in 1994 with the two forming the duo “Austin & King”. The duo enjoyed success in the European market and have shared the stage with many Grand Ole Opry greats. Marks greatest musical joy however has been and continues to be the opportunity to sing and share his music endeavors with his youngest daughter Beka. Mark and his dad started the publishing company “Big Sugar Music” in 1989 which he currently oversees and manages.
