My name is Raji Qasidi, and my story is a journey across continents, cultures, and a soundtrack of ska and political anthems.
I was born in Palestine, in a small village where the ancient stones of our houses seemed to whisper stories of resilience and hope. My earliest memories are of my grandmother singing traditional songs, her voice a soothing balm against the backdrop of an often tumultuous world. From her, I inherited a love for music, which would become my refuge and my voice.
When I was ten, my family moved to Ukraine. The transition was a shock to my system the cold winters, the new language, the different way of life. But it was in Ukraine that I discovered ska music. A neighbor, a university student with a passion for vinyl records, introduced me to the fast-paced, upbeat sounds of bands like The Specials and Madness. The infectious energy of Ska was a revelation. It was a genre born from struggle and celebration, much like my own life.

Eating my Pennies Now

Hey everyone, I want to get real with you today. I’m a musician, and like many artists, I’ve poured my heart, soul, and every last dime I have into my music. I’ve invested in recording sessions, equipment, and promotion, all in the hope of sharing my passion with the world. But here's the hard truth: while thousands of people enjoy my music, very few are willing to pay for it. Streaming platforms offer a way to listen for free, and while it’s great that my music reaches so many ears, it’s also leaving me in a tough spot. Every stream and every play without a purchase feels like another blow to my dreams. When you listen to music for free, you might not realize the impact it has on the creators. It’s not just about the moneythough that’s certainly part of it. It’s about feeling valued and supported. It’s about knowing that the hard work and dedication put into crafting each song is appreciated. Without that support, it’s easy for a musician’s heart to turn bitter, feeling as though their dreams are slipping away. I’m not asking for charity. I’m asking for a fair exchange. If my music has touched you, if it’s been a part of your day, consider buying a track or an album. It’s not just a purchase; it’s a way of showing that you care about the art and the artist behind it. Your support keeps the music alive and helps me continue creating. Thank you for listening, and thank you for supporting the music you love. راجـي قاسـدي Raji Qasidi
