7 Leaves is a hip hop group that features acoustic and live instruments in their music. However, our music also slaps, and gets people up and dancing at all of our shows. We have serious songs, fun songs, sad songs, and angry songs. Basically we take all kinds of music, and mold it into a style that we think is as unique as can be.
Band/artist history
7 Leaves was formed in 1998 by a number of musicians that had grown up with one another, and were then freshmen in high school. Our music began with songs that featured a couple acoustic guitars acompanied by bongos and other "alternative percussion instruments." Some of us would rap, and some of us would sing along to the music, and to us, jamming was the definition of a good time. Now in 2005, seven years later, we have progressed to become not only a popular local group of the south bay area, but also a production company for other artists. Basically, we love what we do, and we live for our music.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play live at locations across the San Fransisco bay area. We've performed at the Oakland Metro, the Gaslighter, Brittania Arms, The Venue, a whole bunch of house parties, and a couple local high schools.
Your musical influences
Our influences range from Tupac to Jimi Hendrix. Here is a short list: Mac Dre, George Clinton, EA-Ski, Del the Funky Homosapien, Living Legends, Aesop Rock, A Tribe Called Quest, Bone Thugs, Slug, The Doors, and Santana. Basically we're influenced by a whole bunch of music,a nd it all gets blended together in our sound.
What equipment do you use?
Live instruments (grand piano, acoustic and electric guitars, jazz and electric bass, organs, and harps), turntables, computer synths, and a Yamaha Motiff.
