3rd Platoon
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The idea of 3rd Platoon came together in the spring of 1999. so we been doin' this here for 6 years so 54th Platoon and anybody else is straight biting and don't even have meaning to their purpose. but we ain't mad at cha, you didn't know.
All of our Hip-Hop fetishes came alive in the spring of 1997. Vidalia was currently being represented by a local group called Cash Incorparated, led by Vidalia's own: Big Babe. In the hood, he was simply known as Big Mark. Cash Incorparated were the 1st artists in Vidalia to release an album underground. This movement inspired the young in the neighborhood to try and pursue a career in Hip-Hop; not only to showcase talent, but to escape the negativity of the streets. Arson (who was going by Vicious at the time) got together with his cousin, Michael Riley and formed the 1st young group in Vidalia named Crucial Crime. Michael and Vince recruited another young artist by the name of Juve (Johnnie Minor) 2 weeks later, Crucial Crime then became a 3 man group.
Soon another group was formed by the name of DTG (Down Town Gangstas). This camp had multiple members, led by K-Dogg (Kenny Warner). members were: Spoogie, Bullitt, K-Dogg, Gangsta, Wicked, Su-Down, Razor, and a few others. Both Crucial Crime and DTG were popular in Vidalia, but neither group ever dropped a song on cd. *only rare mixtapes remain of these 2 groups* Later Crucial Crime recruited Lethal (Lionel Dean), and Malice (Melvin Warner), as members of Crucial Crime after Michael decided to leave the group for unknown reasons. Soon Melvin left the group and Razor left DTG and joined Crucial Crime for about a month; then he left. DTG remained together making a hit called: Claim Yo' Set. Then Skippa moved back into town in early '98. He was going by the name Yungg C. at the time. He was eventually recruited by Crucial Crime. Skippa got into beef with a member and went to DTG.The last members of Crucial Crime were: Vicious(Arson), Juve, & Lethal. Made the famous Vidalia hit: 9z-N-Tecs. Crucial Crime & DTG squashed beef and combined the 2 hits into 1 song that made the biggest impact on the hood but also broke both groups up due to giving up. Spoogie left DTG in '97 and formed 3rd Platoon. The original members were: Spg, Razor, & Bullitt. Spg left the group and went out-of-town, leaving his spot vacant. Bullitt called Arson and asked him to come by and work on a song: Rep was born! The song was recorded on tape 1st but when Skippa came back into town, he was approached by Arson and quickly recruited into the group. "Rep" the 1st single was born and the 2nd song in Vidalia history to ever be recorded on cd (the 1st was "A Fool" by: Vivid). The 4 members of 3rd Platoon made history that night and has escalated since: Bullitt Arson Razor Skippa. Spg came back in 2003, and was accepted in with open arms, THE REST IS HISTORY ...
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Vidalia,LA.
Yes, 3P is always willing to do shows wherever they maybe scheduled. Most of our shows have been done state-wide in Louisiana and Mississippi but we will do shows anywhere. Currently our cd is in 22 states so we wouldn't be suprised if someone heard of us. Every show is our special moment, but their is something about performing at home in Vidalia, La.(Vi-Lou) that amps us up. Maybe its because the crowd always sings along with us; they know every word of every song!
