from www.zenapoale.com 23986721 B:TS is one of over 150 music projects and monikers of Garry Banks, each moniker representing a different theme or approach. 23986721 B:TS was created as an outlet with little emphasis placed on keeping to traditional structures or 4/4 timing, and no restrictions on sound or limits on different styles. One track may be glitch, the next drum n bass, and the next track could be something altogether different. The only criteria is that 23986721 B:TS is completely electronic -recorded and edited via computer software and utilizing "found sounds",classic video game samples and obscure professional wrestling samples, and inexpensive toy keyboards. Banks makes a conscious effort to avoid emulation and creating derivative pieces but acknowledges he is inspired by the works of artists who have shown that music could be done in totally different ways than what we were previously accustomed to hearing, citing acid rapper Esham, the Boredoms, and the Melvins as examples. A man with a mission, Banks' personal goal is to release 15,000 albums -not necessarily to sell 15,000 copies but to release 15,000 different albums!

ambientrance july 2002 review of "how to beat sinsistar" 1st 23986721 bits release, still availiable thru zenapoale records www.zenapolae.com A short-but-solid display of playful e-drums and ambiance. Sputtering beats inject sodium pentathol (1:06) with a hyper-rhythmic serum that seeps into less-percussive ymm:rrr, where bloopy sci-fi-tronics swirl and twinkle with occasional weird mutterings beneath. Program : 7 is another foray into crisp (sometimes extra crispy!) drum'n'bass styled electrons. More ambient textures shuffle through the oblique murk of genetic blueprint. Videogame voices add menace to the already glowering cloudboil of How To Beat Sinistar. Skewed strands and spastic drumplay twist and turn through Hydra (7:01) which mutates through various phases, ending in a stew of swishy ripples. Gary Banks' admitted goal is to release more than 15,000 titles, so you might expect certain quantity-over-quality issues, though that's not a problem with these exploratory ditties (8 tracks in 25.5 minutes FYI).
