Band/artist history
Born in that small town of Picayune, MS, the place in which he still resides, Joshua Caleb a.k.a. J-Smooth began his journey on the voyage of music at the age of eleven. After the passing of his grandfather, he began to teach himself the intricate, patience-mandatory skill of playing the guitar. As he took on many band ventures, J. never really found himself in the right character. So the ongoing cycle of bands and genres continued until he fell in love with the diversity and versatility that the style of R&B so wholeheartedly embraced. While writing his first album, "Evermore", which released on February 7, 2004, Caleb wanted to dabble in the production side of the industry to try and broaden his own horizons even more. Thus, J-Smooth emerged from this recipe for R&B styles mixed with hip-hop and rap influences. This Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde schizophrenic duo could only be contained for so long without being recognized by local rappers who wanted to experience the same production skills and a comfortable recording environment. Hence, the commencement of the empire that Enlightened Entertainment, Inc. will be. Once exposed to the admiration and respect received from hundreds of people, J. took his company and expanded the roster of artists. However, after the early 2005 release of Enlightened Entertainment, Inc.'s second album, which was a compilation called "A Family Affair", the main office was burglarized and emptied of its contents. The discouragement seemed relentless until only a month later, when Enlightened Entertainment, Inc. regained its financial ground and returned to the grind of another album. This time the blessings would be counted as Double E worked toward its third album between the months of April and June of 2005, featuring the Entourage, entitled "Reincarnation". It symbolized the rebirth of the label after a devastating fall from grace. Although J. had added more artists to his list, his naivety and lack of good judgment gained the best of him in the fact that some of them wanted complete control of the operations. And in time, the Entourage all fell down, like toy soldiers. "Reincarnation" was never released to the public and as a result, Enlightened Entertainment, Inc. suffered yet another catastrophic turning point while all but two artists remained loyal to the cause, Joshua Caleb included. "Big Body and Absolute were the only ones who stayed by my side throughout the controversy." says Caleb. After all of the stopping and going and stopping and going, Enlightened Entertainment, Inc. took a two month break to recollect itself and to let the artists who remained enjoy simple pleasures in life as the Summer of 2005 was drawing to an end. In September, a terrible realization came to the Board of Directors of Enlightened Entertainment, Inc. The quickest way for the music to be distributed and heard was through an age old method of the mixtape. So, following in the footsteps of hundreds before them such as Bun B and Pimp C, Chamillionaire, DJ Kay Slay and Dr. Dre, DJ Clue and The Game, and Swishahouse, Enlightened Entertainment, Inc. released two mixtapes within two months of each other. Mixtape Monarchy Vol. I (December 9, 2005) and Vol. II (February 10, 2006) are still the hottest releases in Picayune, MS yet.
