100 Percent Dykerin

Bognor, Canada
July 10, 2007
Welcome to the music of 100 percent Dykerin! We are a duo comprising Enio Mascherin and James Dykeman. We met just a few years ago, and discovered each others passion for song writing even fewer years ago. Better still, the songs we write solo take on a new life when we do them together, adding a harmony here and a guitar lick there. We have a lot of fun playing together and we genuinely admire each others songs. We hope you can hear that in the songs we have included here.
Band/artist history
From a promo piece for a July 15, 2007 spot at Harbour Nights in Owen Sound, Ontario; James met Enio Mascherin socially away from the music scene. Only as their friendship developed did a shared interest in music become apparent. Eventually James showed Enio some of the original songs he had recorded, and Enios response was encouraging. Still, James had little inkling that Enio was also a song writer until Enio turned on his computer one night and said listen to this. I heard this bouncy riff play a few times, then a peculiar low voice sing when I was young, I must have been a baby. I was impressed I loved the lick, loved the feel of it, and was quite taken with that first line. It took me a minute to figure out it was Enio I was listening to. As it turned out, the song was a work in progress, and while I was driving home later, a bridge for the song suddenly jumped to mind. When I showed it to Enio, he loved it, and Prodigal Son was born. So was a musical partnership. Over the next few weeks, James and Enio brought out their individual song catalogues to each other. They loved each others songs but better still, each found that the other had something to add -an enlivening riff, a harmony, a thrown in line. We could tinker with each others songs constructively, without ego being a problem, because we both have the attitude that the song is the important thing it is the music that must be served, not our egos. We certainly disagree, but always in good humour. Besides, I think we both respect the musical touch that the other brings to the partnership. Our musical tastes overlap and complement each other, and we share an appreciation for good image evoking lyrics. 100% Dykerin was born when James and Enio decided, in the fall of 2006, that they wanted to get their songs out to be heard. They played at an open mike sponsored by the Georgian Bay Folk Society, and won a spot in The Last Chance Saloon. They are a work in progress being a new partnership, still learning (and writing) new songs. We havent done any bar gigs together yet because you need 3 hours or more of music, and most of that cover tunes if you want to keep people entertained, and we arent at that stage yet. In fact, we are still spending all of our time on original material, so the Harbour Nights gig is a real Godsend for us. We are really excited to have the chance to get our music heard. We think we have some good material, but we are testing the waters. It will be peoples response that tells us whether or not we are writing good music.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We have done a few live gigs together, and hope to do more in the future. It is gratifying how people have received our songs and encouraged us to keep at it.
Your musical influences
Cat Stevens, Chicago, Bob Dylan, Savoy Brown, Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Paul Simon - writers of evocative thought provoking lyrics.
What equipment do you use?
We both have Takamine guitars, and we record and mix on a Fostex VF160 digital multitracker.
