Hey, wOOd from Zuur here. I live in Utrecht, The Netherlands. A wonderful old town and an areacode that starts with 030. Which is nearly 303, if you want to.
Why this name?
"Zuur" is the Dutch word for acid. It first appeared in the Dutch language around 1265 and finds it origins in the old Slavonic syrü, which means moist. Since the late eighties acid also describes the sound that's produced by Roland's famed TB-303 bassline synthesizer.
Do you play live?
No. I have too much stuff (old synths, a pc) to carry with me at the moment. Am looking to make live sets via laptop a possibility.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It allows people to share their music more easily, but those who get a record deal through the internet are still few and far between.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure.
Band History:
A two man band (The Acid Demons) until the late nineties, after that I went solo under the Zuur moniker.
Your influences?
I like basically all kinds of music, if it's what we call "oprecht", so genuine without a campy second agenda.
Favorite spot?
I felt right at home in New York when I went there, but I love my hometown because it's got ancient roots.
Equipment used:
The Roland TB-303, obviously. I use Ableton as my sequencer. I have an ESI ESP1010 (19" input/output soundcard) to tie all 101, 202 and stuff together.
Anything else...?
I will probably make this all downloadable. I have to cross an artistic hurdle first. ;)
