in the almost two years, since 2006's the rest is darkness and dismay, much has changed in the xiphoid process world. the new album, closure, reflects an intensely introspective approach while continuing to expand and refine the xp sound. arguably xp's most mature album to date, closure incorporates all the familiar elements but draws less heavily on the more industrial approach of the last release, and returns to the more melodic focus of the earlier releases. michael further describes the album as "a concept album with the songs intentionally out of chronological order." the digital version of the disc contains 15 tracks with over 86 minutes of music recorded over the past year at final exit studios outside of albuquerque, new mexico, usa. the hard copy of the cd does not contain the bonus track the way to heaven?.

Band History:
formed in 1994 from the ashes of an experimental/noise duo, xiphoid process evolved to create intriguing soundscapes that transcend the borders of gothic, industrial, experimental, and synth music. led by the solitary m. potts, xp has garnered a small cult following among dark music's intelligentsia. possessing an honesty to his voice that is rarely heard in this style of electronic music, michael is known for his oblique lyrics and layered vocals. the songs range in style from a very dark gothic, to ebm-core, to psychedelia inspired synthwave. darkwave and industrial are juxtaposed with experimental all the while retaining the cohesive elements of a hopelessly bleak atmosphere and michael's ubiquitous voice. but perhaps most intriguing of all is that beneath the electronics, percussion and effects lie the corpses of smartly written songs. granted not all of them are accessible at first, but unfold listen after listen unveiling a deeper meaning each time.
after self-releasing a full length demo and five studio albums, xiphoid process has refined and redefined its sound. focusing more on tighter, beat-heavy arrangements and less on the noise of musique concrete, the more accessible sound even landed xp several spots on the now defunct mp3.com's top 40 goth and industrial charts. the inclusion of xiphoid process on the infamous interbreeding industrial compilations has brought international recognition to a staunchly underground artist. now poised to step up to the next level of the underground, michael only offers his standard cryptic reflection: "the elegy continues."
