****************END OF ANNOUNCEMENTS**************

waco hoover is everything that you have been looking for in a "band", and it's time that you people acknowledge that fact! Catchy songs, intense lyrics, driving guitar lines, and a strong sense of how vast the "real" world can be, are all qualities that set this music apart from almost everything else out there. Although it is far from mainstream, waco hoover's music is not entirely out of touch with the "Pop" world, allowing their songs to be appreciated by a wide and diverse audience. Let your ears enjoy what they hear, and your heart accept what it feels as home. waco hoover is home.
Why this name?
It sounds good, looks good on paper, doesn't stand out as a gimicky name, and doesn't mean anything at all. These are all good qualities that a band name should have.
Do you play live?
Yes, I play live, just solo right now, in and around Texas. I live in downtown Dallas and I am looking to play a lot of gigs. If anyone can help me, please e-mail or post a message on the board.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it is a help, not a hurt. Just because I am downloading a cut from a major label album, doesn't mean that I am not going to buy it. In fact, since I have been downloading music over the past 5 or so years, I would say that my music buying at the retail level has grown. If you make music that is great, people will buy it regardless of whether or not they can download it for free. If you make crap, then people should not be duped into buying your crap.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes. Although it can be done on my own, and with a little help from friends and family, I would have to be an idiot to turn down the right major label. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd rather sign with a small label, but I want to be heard, and like it or not, major labels get you heard.
Band History:
I started playing guitar my Freshman (Freshperson for those who may) year in highschool, in 1993-1994. I didn't even know how to tune it so I just picked out notes that I heard on the radio or CD. The next year, my friend Fred asked me if I wanted to play guitar in a large ensemble that he was taking to contest and I of course said yes. So, I bought a chord book, tuned the guitar, and learned the song. We did well at contest and I stuck with it. My dad always says that I told him that I was going to play guitar at solo and enemble contest, and he said,"I didn't know that you played guitar." I started learning songs by ear so, I never really learned properly. The first songs that I learned were Dave Matthews Band, Queensryche, Beatles, and Dream Theater songs, but when I would write my own stuff, I leaned more towards the acoustic Dave Matthews/Neil Young type stuff. I've been in and out of a few bands that never really went anywhere, and thought it was time to do something on my own, or as close to it as possible. waco hoover is me and my heart, and although there are some Dave Matthews type elements, it would be hard to say that we are one in the same. I don't really stick with one style, because I listen to almost every type of music that there is. I hope that what you hear is a reflection of that, along with my soul, on a platter for your enjoyment.
Your influences?
Dave Matthews band and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are two of my all time favorites, but I am also influenced by a lot of idie music as well, like The National, Richmond Fontaine, Richard Buckner and Built to Spill. I'd have to be lying if I said I wasn't influenced by the Texas Country scene as well, with the likes of Ray Wylie Hubbard, Willie Nelson, and Robert Earl Keen.
Favorite spot?
In the bed, sleeping.
Equipment used:
Fostex VF-16 digital recorder, Fender electrics(telesonic and strat), Yamaha acoustics, Fender amps, John Pierce and Martin strings. Also, a Masterpiece banjo, Hohner Special 20 and Pro harps, Lee Oscar harps, a really cheap Casio keyboard, and an e-bow. Various mics, including an MXL2001 condenser, Shure SM58's, Audix Drum mics, and an EV N/D267 that I bought for $7 (man I really miss Mars Music). Mixed using Cool Edit Pro 2. (I'll have to ask Joe or Ryan about the drums, cymbals, and percussion, so if you want to know, let me know.)
Anything else...?
Thanks for listening, and if you have any questions, interests, or comments, drop me a line.
