The Eisenhowers play thoughtful, punchy, melodic pop music for folk who like that sort of thing.
If you enjoy artists like Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann, Crowded House and Squeeze, there is a good chance you might like our songs. We are nice people; only one or two members of this band have ever served time for significant felonies.
Why this name?
It was a very close call between two names - 'The Tragic Nixon Collective' and 'The Eisenhowers'. We consulted our astrologist and she advised that the omens were far better for the second option, particularly with the moon in the seventh house (and Jupiter aligned with Mars).
Do you play live?
Yes, usually in very small venues. Our appeal is, as they say, very selective.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
They say it's no longer about 'distribution' ... it's all about 'access' now. But MP3s don't really sound as good as CDs, do they?
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No, absolutely not. Well ... probably not. At least, I don't think so. How much are they offering?
Band History:
The Eisenhowers is not so much a band, more a loose collection of people making a noise with musical instruments. The music they play is an eclectic and adult-oriented mix, inspired by the likes of Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello, The Beach Boys, REM, Crowded House, Steely Dan and XTC. The debut album 'Almost half-undressed' featured 12 literate, punchy and thoughtful songs about sex, celebrity, love, money, parenthood and serial killers. The new album, due in September 2008, is called 'Film your own atrocities' and features 14 stonking new tracks. Check the website for further details. All members of The Eisenhowers collective are politically aware and very much focused on the important issues of the day. They guarantee that at least 20% of the proceeds from sales will be used to buy girlie mags and alcohol.
Your influences?
REM, Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello, The Beach Boys, ELO, Crowded House, Steely Dan, Jellyfish, XTC, Radiohead, Squeeze, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles and Roxy Music.
Favorite spot?
The bit at the back of the knee. Don't know if there is a medical name for it.
Equipment used:
Strings and stuff. Anything that makes a noise.
Anything else...?
The songs on this site are all home demos. They represent material that hasn't (and probably won't) make it on to any of our 'proper' albums. Our myspace and our website features more developed 'studio' versions of some of these songs and some other tunes which are even more fabulous. We hope you like the songs. We hope you will buy our albums.
