Hi I'm Ben Hannah singer/songwriter in Liverpool Punk-revivalists The Defunct. The Defunct are renowned for their early punk sounds influenced by bands such as The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and Stiff Little Fingers, with the attitude of 70's brit-punk
Why this name?
The band came about after a the falling apart of The Dead Cellars (who are now Defunct)
Do you play live?
No gigs are planned as of yet but it would be great to play Joseph's Well in Leeds.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Mp3 is a great way of getting your music to whole new audience. The thing is people can take it too far and you could end up having smaller, signed artists not getting the credit they deserve. I'm happy to see programs like iTunes supporting smaller band now, iTunes is the way forward.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the opportunity arose I would have to think about it then- Terms in contracts can be to enforcing sometimes and bands could end up putting stuff out that they don't want to release. I think it's good the way things are at the moment- music is for fun not for money.
Band History:
The band formed in Sept 2004 from the ashes of The Dead Cellars.
Your influences?
Clash, The Pistols, The Ramones, Stiff Little fingers- all the greats.
Favorite spot?
Leeds
