Six Years Six Years

Acoustic Guitar

The Bitter Reply is an acoustic project, where all the songs are written and played by me, Chris Lu. All the songs have low production values, and were recorded right in my own room with a simple 4-track. Although, there is a certain honesty within each of the songs with all cheaply made recordings and everything. Most of the songs are about love... in fact, it's mostly about one certain love. Although that love is a bit regrettable these days it did make me create some interesting music. I think this music is more of a downer when I hear it, I mean, you can only write music that expresses your feelings you can’t fake what you feel when you write music, it’ll only turn the music into something that doesn’t come from you. Which is why my kind of music is a bit on the depressed side. I wouldn’t say I’m always depressed or anything, but it’s just the kind of music that comes out. So if you decide to check out The Bitter Reply, first of all, that’s really cool of you to try something new, and second, I hope you enjoy it. One thing that’s always weird is to hear my own voice in music I make, there was a time when recording music was really new to me, and I’d burn it onto a CD and play it in my car and then I’d sing along finding myself at awkward moments when I realized I don’t have to sing along! I already am.
Band/artist history
Not much of a history The Bitter Reply was started in 2002 after I graduated from High School and I’ve been writing stuff for it since then.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I've only played one show, which was an opening act for a band I sing in. It was really pretty cool, cause one of the songs was about a girl in the audience.
Your musical influences
Influences I have a lot I’m into the Deftones but The Bitter Reply doesn’t sound anything like them. But I supposed the Deftones have influenced me to make some really good music with honesty in the lyrics. I dig a lot of other bands, The Mars Volta, The Smiths, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Radiohead, Taproot, Sparta good stuff like that.
What equipment do you use?
Really simple stuff... Tascam 4 Track Yamaha Acoustic Guitar Carvin SC90 Electric Microphone (forget what band, sticker peeled off) Ibanez Cheapo with Dimarzio pickups
Anything else?
If you find any of this stuff interesting let me know! E-mail me!
