Why this name?
I was driving down the road and thinking about a name for a new band I had been working to put together. I happened to cross the county line on the way home when it hit me like a hammer. What a great name for the new band. And the County Line Band was born.
Do you play live?
Yes, I do some live shows. Mainly in my home area of Northern California. I like performing my music for the public. It can be tough at times, you never know how the crowd will react to your original songs. Particularly when they have never heard the song before. Generally the first couple of time you don't hear much about it then people start talking to my wife and friends about the songs and how proud they must be of me.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Mom & Pop radio stations are pretty much gone forever. The old days of driving into a radio station and giving a live DJ a 45 record and doing an interview on the spot are lost forever. Big record companies dominate the airwaves preventing new rising artist from getting known. As a songwriter it's even harder to get heard. Internet give those of us that are really trying to make end meet in this business a chance against the big record companies and the radio networks they have in their pockets.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
absolutely
Band History:
I was born in the Appalachian Mountains of Maine in
the small town of Weld. Home of Web Lake & Mount
Blue State Park. I grew up with my father and relatives
playing Bluegrass and Country music. As a youngster and
teenager I spent my weekends playing gig's with my father
and the Midnight Ramblers. I taught myself to play the
guitar at the age of 14 and started writing music shortly
there after. I was selected all four year of high school as a
lead tenor in the All-State high school chorus and soloed
as a guitarist my senior year. I consider it a great honor
to have opened the stage for Tammy Wynette at the age of
16 in a Farmington, Maine County Fair Concert.
Your influences?
Buck Owens, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, Patsy Cline, Gene Autry, Hank Williams SR, Floyd Cramer, Tammy Wynette, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, Allan Jackson
Favorite spot?
Montana
Equipment used:
Primarily I play an Epiphone Dove-E acoustic Guitar. I also have a Martin made Washburn D10SCE that I have used to record in the studio. I use a Berhinger PMH880S PA with Berhinger B212 speakers. Topped off with Kustom KSE12MLI monitors and Ultamite TS-70B Speaker stand. I use a Sound Addict mike for live performances. Great set up for small budgets and handles most gig I play.
