Classic hip-hop music with artistic flair. Not just breakbeats and rhymes, but a unique listening experience. Your mind will be entertained by diverse musical combinations. Under the direction of producer Tack-Fu, and his production team titled the "85 decibel Monks," tweaking sounds and chopping up beats with perfection only adds to it's reputation as one of the finest hip-hop production teams in the entire midwest region.

Tack-Fu introduces a sonic menu. His beats feature all-natural organic beats and basslines, fresh the day after its recorded and Tack-Fu 's own hip-hop de jour musical creations with the 85 decibel Monks.

Tack-Fu has been hammering out beats in his recording lab for over 10 years. He has released 3 compilation cds ("Yen & Slang" ('98) / "Chained Reaction" ('00) / "Tack-Fu Presents: 85 decibel Monks" ('04) ) and several of his instrumentals have appeared on cable television channels (MTV, VH1, A&E, Discovery, & many others) since 2003.

"Listeners should get a musical experience, not just repetitive loops layered on top of each other. I'll introduce samples and instrument combinations they haven't heard before. I look to all musical styles, with the exception of hillbilly/bluegrass music, to feature what is fresh and hip." states Tack-Fu.

"Tack-Fu is an artist in the recording studio," explains the Chaircrusher, a member of the 85 decibel Monks. "Listeners should be ready to go on a musical journey, his presentations will exceed your expectations."

Every recording is designed to guarantee the ultimate listening experience. Phat beats, groovy basslines, funky instruments and the finest sound quality. Check out the music...enjoy the ride.

"85 decibel Monks" - the production team.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The 5 major labels are contracting, hedging bets on “sure-shots” and “popular hits” while the internet is spinning circles around them. Mp3’s and artist sponsored web sites are a threat to the traditional music business formula that has existed for the past 70 years because:

1) Mp3’s are free to download
2) Web sites provide direct access to a global audience
3) The playing field between indie artists and signed artists are becoming balanced

This is a shift from the dominate “music business” to that of the “musician business.” Mp3’s, affordable digital home recordings, independently produced Cds, and live performances place growth entirely in the hands of artists and their teams. The rules are being rewritten.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It would have look over the contract with a fine toothed comb. I think an offer would be nice...but lets be honest. The old formula of selling packaged music in a cd is dying, they would have to sweet'en the pot with other incentives.
Your influences?
I grew up with an record player and huge stack of 45's. I would jump on my bike and hit up garage sales, looking for records with the coolest looking labels. Back then I was paying maybe a quarter for a handful, so you can imagine the different styles of music I had tucked in my closet. When hip-hop music hit in the mid 80's, that was it for me. I knew hip-hop/rap music was going to grow and become widely popular and I wanted to be apart of it.
Favorite spot?
San Francisco: Because the city has such a vibrant and supportive artist community. Also, San Francisco is an excellent place to dig for records, see great live shows, and eat unique foods.
Equipment used:
Old records to lift samples, sound forge & acid software.
