I have also played at colleges and bars. There was one bar, called the rusty nail, where we had a weekly gig. I remember one night, there was a heckler near the back. When I asked if there were any requests, he said "stop playing" so I said "thanks for the constructive criticism...you big fatso." His friends dragged him out screaming at me. good times.
Your musical influences
Firstly, I would have to say Ween. for the sole reason that when you play Ween for someone who's never heard them, they keep asking "is this the same band?" My music is kind of like that. I try as many new things as I can, because it cracks me up, goofing around with different instruments and different voices and sounds. I would also have to say The Talking Heads, because David Byrne writes songs about little things like popsicles or airplane rides or buildings and food. He doesn't screw around trying to simplify big concepts like love and death. that's the way songwriting should be. Let's see, who else? Beck, The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Tenacious D, Jeff Buckley, Neutral Milk Hotel, Black Heart Procession, Jonny Cash, Tom Waits, Manu Chao and ... um ... The Moldy Peaches!Anything else?
