At The Edge Of The World

Lo-fi ninja funk that's scratched and smacked badly, but keeps stride in true pimp style.
Steven West has been involved in the Canadian Music scene for many years. From garage bands in the 80's, to flourishing compositional and production work through the 90's. Electronic music is where West shines best. And having released his first 'solo' CD in 2000 entitled 'Electricky', he has definately 'found his sound' of conceptual music and CD's that take listeners on a journey from first track to last. A pure 'track journey' is West's 2002 CD release entitled 'Metalurge'. And a real 'space trip' can be had with Steven West's most recent release 'Analogistic' in 2003. As of early May 2006, the long awaited 'Geopoliticking' CD will be released. Comprising of many remastered 'experiments' that was put up here and elsewhere as MP3's. Woven into a chilling journey of political, economical, and moral evolution (or lack thereof?) Always daring, never compromising, Steven West delivers.

Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have stage fright worse than Barbara Streisand and Carly Simon combined. In the 20 years I've been doing music, I've probably done about 10 concerts. I like the really unusual venues, and probably the best concert I gave was at The Free Times Cafe in Toronto in 1994, and only 20 people showed up.
Your musical influences
I personally like 'the greats' of electronic music. Wendy Carlos, Kraftwerk, Throbbing Gristle, Depeche Mode, Stereolab, and Boards of Canada. These are (to me) the most important contributory sources in the evolution of electronic music. Personally, when I'm not doing electronic music I love old rock and roll, rockabilly, and C&W.
What equipment do you use?
Hardware that appears on releases; Arp Odyssey, Roland SH-3a, SP-808, R-70, Korg PolySix, SR-120, Yamaha CS-10, SY77II, EX5, MU100r, SU10, Casio SK-1, RZ-1, SK-5, PT-30 Software that appear on releases; Orion Platinum Suite, Native Instruments, SoundBurst Ethnosphere, Greenoak Crystal, MDA instruments and FX, SmartElectronix range of effects and instruments, numerous fantastic SE and C++ creations from the great talents of KVR Audio and elsewhere.
Anything else?
As Flying Lizards said 'Look me up on Channel 3' - Well, actually make that http://radio3.cbc.ca/ to be exact.
