My music has evolved into electro funk. I've begun marketing myself using the name "Elton Costello" so people can find me before the other 200+ Steve Cohen's found in a google search.
To pigeon-hole myself as a band would be a mis-nomer just because the web page forces me into this category :). I do front a band at times where we do Rolling Stones and other classic covers. I have played the "PIANO MAN"...where i will do sing-along style music usually in a bar setting. However my heart is in producing original material and learning to market my music.
I write, record, and produce original material primarily solo using electronics and drum machines these days. I've posted numerous additional songs from multiple albums on the site at www.mysoundclick.com/eltoncostello.

Why this name?
Google... Elton Costello. It's now easier to find me. Believe it or not if you go to ITUNES you'll find two Steve Cohen's. How crazy is that? (For those curious about all my recordings visit

I also have a lot of respect for Sir Elton John. My nephew says "he ain't cool". But he is someone who does good work in the world. I would love to be able to great things with my life as he has. Many people are successful with their music, but few are generous enough to try to create charitable foundations.

Do you play live?
I play live. Usually I will get called by a bar owner and asked to play solo piano or with a band. I tend to call session-musicians and play them without rehearsal. I get a kick out of it when i play with a band i haven't performed live with in years and people say.."Oh my god..you guys sound so tight."
I would like to perform playing live piano on top of my electronic recordings while matching the vocal track. I attempted it once and the acoustics of the room weren't right, so i abandoned it minutes before showtime and played a solo piano/voice show instead.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
the internet will even out the playing field..so that every artist will have equal access to music distribution...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
it would depend on which aspect of the business the label was looking to help with...
