description
A fun rock song with a playful array of guitars with a funk feel. As the remaining verses emerged, the song was changed from its original grungy format to a more playful, fun, funky feel.

Spam consists of five artists from three different continents. We play Alternative, Rock, Pop, and Metal, all with great precision and entertainment.
We have the odd 'fun' song, though we try for our lyrics to be meaningful, embodied by the music. Our music consists of a variety of instruments, with the usual acoustic and electric guitars, bass, and drums, often piano, and occassionally orchestra.
We do our best to be versatile and be different. Check out www.spamtheband.com for more!

Why this name?
Meeting over music forums and such, we did a lot of advertising for our band, wasting internet space and Thomas was brilliant at polluting forums with junk. Spam just popped into our heads and it stuck.
Do you play live?
We don't tend to play live as Thomas and Lara live in the Netherlands, Alex and Dan in Australia, and Brett in America. We intend to spread our music all over the internet instead.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Dramatically. We wouldn't be able to do this project without the internet. It is very convenient for people who don't know other musicians or have the right equipment, as you can meet all kinds of people over the internet. It has revolutionised music, changing the way people think of it.
In terms of distribution it is fantastic as well. If you are concerned with money making, then it is mainly for promotional purposes, or purchasing over the internet. However, if you want your music to be heard for free, as we do, you can get it to virtually every country in the world and have everybody you want hearing it.
The internet is taking the music industry in a very new direction. Where this path takes it in the short term is in a good way, but the long-term is unknown yet intriguing.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We would gladly sign a contract, though we're not actively seeking it at this point. If any major label was interested we would be like to be contacted.
Band History:
Spam was originally just Thomas and Alex, late January in 2006. However, Alex and Thomas had been writing before then, starting "That Whisper of Words" (later scrapped) mid-2005. Work on it was slow, however another song that was later scrapped, "Step Too Far" was written as well "Overdue", and the pair began to talk about starting a band. They came up with the name Spam, ideas for some more songs and began writing.
Soon into production they realised that they did need a singer as Thomas was good for secondary vocals but not lead singer material. They also needed a drummer. After some searching, Andrew Pratten was found and he could do Acoustic Guitar and drums.
The three now could complete the writing and recording of Third-Class Junk Mail (the album title decided around October 2006). However, it was soon realised that an electric guitarist was needed for the remaining songs, which was when they found Daniel Van Werkhoven in January, 2007, who was in effect the band's saviour.
After several people joining and leaving or being sacked for various reasons, Lara joined in early November, 2007 as a brilliant lead singer who had the perfect voice for Spam, and Dan doing secondary vocals where needed which made the band perfect.
Originally the band's sound was Alternative, Rock, Pop, and Blues, but with the removal of "Outcast of Society" and "Lost My Keys" from the album, the Blues element had gone, and "Rain" was transformed from Rock into Metal, and "Enclosing Darkness" was written to be a Metal song, so the genre replacement simply came about naturally.
Andrew had to quit due to personal reasons with some major events going on in his life. After some searching, Brett Arnold was found, introducing Spam to a new continent with a man talented at guitar and drums with a fresh, vibrant approach to music that the other band members found invigorating.
After going through different phases of prefering one style then changing, Spam has resulted in a band with large variety of Alternative, Pop, Rock and Metal music. The band's history is far from over, and the search for a full-time drummer is still continuing.

Your influences?
Spam does have a lot of variety, though essentially we're Alternative, Rock, Pop, and Metal. We love listening to artists like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Bon Jovi, Evanescence, Nickelback, Eskimo Joe, U2, and such. We are a band of major variety.
