A New Breed of Singer/Songwriter Has Emerged... Once a dream, now her destiny, it is only fitting to call Sherri Mullen one of Harrisburg's finest prodigies in the realm of singer/songwriters. Realizing early in life that she wanted to perform, Sherri's natural talent for writing poetry and music shone through. Although her desire was strong, it was several years before the yearning won over. It was inevitable, Sherri needed to rock! Already a classically trained pianist, Sherri picked up a guitar and began to absorb everything and anything pertaining to music. Learning quickly, she took her talents to the stage. Within a year, Sherri Mullen recorded and released her first CD, "Mask." Consisting of twelve original songs, this is only a small increment of Sherri's capabilities. Possessing a broad-span vocal range and a passion for her craft, a live show best portrays Sherri's talents. Often compared to rock legends such as Heart, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Raitt, and Melissa Etheridge, Sherri's original material is what draws the audience in best. Her compelling lyrics and versatile musical style allow her to capture many genres of listening fans, as well as deliver a show portraying various ballads, power-pop tunes, a touch of blues, some alternative country, and a healthy dose of modern rock & roll! Sherri's first single, "Home Of The Free," has already made its way around the globe, a gift that Sherri offered our service men & women during the tragedies and hardships of war. Her plight was to increase morale and offer support to those who serve our country. The song is available for downloading via a special web connection at www.SherriMullen.com/freedownload . This song has also been featured in a television show and in broadcasts on various radio stations around the country. In addition to her busy schedule as a performing singer/songwriter in heavy demand, Sherri also hosts a weekly internet radio show on Tuesday evenings, as well as participating in a recent addition to television cable, a show on WHBG-Channel 20 (Comcast), pertaining to local happenings in the Harrisburg city and its fluent music scene. Sherri is a member of ASCAP, the Recording Academy (NARAS), and is a Regional Workshop Coordinator for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). With an abundance of songs in her repertoire, she is gaining the attention of the music publishing community and ulitimately hopes to place her recorded material into the film and television markets, and to provide songs for other recording artists.
Band/artist history
I gave up a lucrative computer systems engineer career to finally pursue my music. Some people say I did it all backwards...I got married, got the career, had kids...and THEN got serious about my music. I say I did it at just the right time. The family was more important than the music. Those sacrafices were and continue to be worth it! I know who I am, my personal life is in order, and I am now in a position to pursue my career as a singer/songwriter with the support of those who love and support me. What could be better than having someone to share it all with??
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live SOLO, DUO, TRIO, and FULL BAND shows. Different material is presented in each of these shows. The variety in presentation allows me to cover all types of music that I write and keeps things interesting for the folks that like to come out to every show! Plus it keeps it more interesting for me as well! I enjoy playing live. We (the full band) recently did a showcase at the Millenium Music Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Our finale was a patriotic tune I wrote (in light of 9/11) called "Home of the Free". We passed out little flags and during the finale, we had a packed club waving the flags at us while we did the song. It was an awesome feeling of pride and patriotism!
Your musical influences
Melissa Etheridge, Heart, Pat Benetar, Bon Jovi and of course the 3 B's (Bach, Bethoven, Brahms). I also love modern rock FUEL, Staind, Goo Goo Dolls, Creed, and I grew up on Olivia Newton John, Elton John, and Billy Joel music. A real hodge podge! I love it all and it shows in my various styles of songs.
What equipment do you use?
6-string Martin acoustic/electric guitar 12-string Alverez acoustic/electric guitar Fender Strat electric guitar (custom shop - was given to me by my big brother) Sammick baby grand piano Yamaha P80 Keyboard
Anything else?
My philosophies on life: Ride the wave...enjoy the journey...find meaning! You are never too old to dream. Be good to others and it comes back to you. Be true to yourself as an artist...don't try to fit into a mold or be something you are not. Love and Family are worth the sacrafices you make along the way!
