Beth Williams' contribution to the album of songs about broken things, intended as a get-well gift to her. I did the music.

CAST AWAY
--Beth Williams
Some people whimper when their hearts get broken
Some creatures cry when they’re stabbed in the back
The problems I am presently caught up with
Are my foot and my arm all wrapped up in fiberglass.
The day it all began I didn’t have no fractures
Another pretty cold one, kept the kids inside
But when my eyes saw that empty bird-feeder
I just wasn’t thinkin’ how I’d navigate the ice
Oh Cast Away
Oh Cast Away
Because of you
I cannot play
Or drive a car
I can’t go far
Won’t some orthopedic person please take my cast away?
My arm was busted cleanly in two places
Gonna be some time till anybody gets a hug
But my lack of balance didn’t favor no location
I went and broke my foot by tripping on a rug.
Oh Cast Away
Oh Cast Away
Because of you
I cannot play
Or drive a car
I can’t go far
Won’t some orthopedic person please take my cast away?
Now and then I’d see the doc to take more body part pictures
He said you’re takin’ prednisone—you ain’t gonna heal for days
But after sixteen weeks of hell he said y’know you might get stronger
With a little bit of movement—so I’ll take your casts away.
Oh Cast Away
Oh Cast Away
Because of you
I had to pay
For special shoe
Gel inserts too
But glory hallelujah! they took my cast away…
