Acoustic Folk

I'm a songwriter. I like to tell stories with my songs. My music is sort of a mess of folk, country and country-jazz.
Band/artist history
It took me a while to finally find a band. In highschool, I was in the FEW, which was an acronym for "Fellowship of Emotional Whores." Needless to say, we were more or less an emo band. I had only written a few songs at that point, and I didn't have the confidence to write much or perform on my own. By and by, we all disbanded due to college. We still remain in touch and hang out frequently. Matt, the singer/songwriter of the band, and I both keep working on music together here and there when we get a chance. Last year, I finally got around to focusing on my craft. I wrote some more songs and recorded them in March. I called them The Office Call Sessions and it's still for sale. Currently, I'm recording most everything I write. I might put them together on an album here soon. We'll see.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live in Midland, where I'm from. I also play often in Hillsdale, where I go to school.
Your musical influences
I'm into keeping music real. Some of my older songs were very personal. Lately, my lyrics are more geneaological and civic. I feel like I carry with me the lives and experiences of my kin, and I feel like I can communicate myself more accurately through these stories. Artists that are highly influential: Ryan Adams, Iron & Wine, Devendra Banhart, Dave Van Ronk, Sufjan Stevens, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan.
What equipment do you use?
Recording: Shure SM 57, M-Audio recording box, Cakewalk Home Studio, Mom's old piano, pop-filter made of a coat hanger and mom's old pantyhose. Live: Taylor 314ce guitar, Deering Banjo, Boss and korg tuners, Elixer strings.
