Room 34 is a solo project by Scott Anderson, exploring the sonic possibilities of rock and electronic music, mostly instrumental, generally eschewing traditional song structures, and heavily reflective of my idiosyncratic array of influences (Beck, Porcupine Tree, The Mars Volta, Miles Davis, Brian Eno, etc.).
Why this name?
Room 34 was a mysterious room in the basement of my high school. Years later the mystery was somewhat disappointingly solved: it was the custodial staff's break room.
Do you play live?
Not as a solo act, but frequently in the past as a member of bands in Minneapolis and Atlanta.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
No walls. No middle man. Communication is multi-directional. Positive feedback loop. We're just beginning to see the transformative powers of the medium beginning to emerge.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If I retained copyright and reasonable royalties for both traditional and online distribution.
Band History:
Room 34 exists only as a recording project. I first recorded under this name (and with an extremely convoluted and low-tech set-up) in 1992.
Your influences?
Beck, Porcupine Tree, Mars Volta, Miles Davis, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, King Crimson, Pink Floyd
Favorite spot?
Minneapolis, in the late spring or early fall
Equipment used:
Fender Jazz Bass, Fender Stratocaster, GarageBand
