FAQ
Why would I need a license?
A license is needed if you want to use the music for anything else than just listening for your pleasure. Typical uses are
  • freestyling over a beat
  • licensing music for use in TV or for a movie
  • remixing or use audio samples
What are the license options and what are the differences between those?
We offer up to 5 license templates (Basic, Premium, Track Out, Unlimited, Exclusive) and it's up to the artist which ones he/she wants to make available. Each license comes with different perks. In general, the higher the price, the better the perks.
You can click on each feature on the left side of the comparison chart above to learn more about each one.
When will I get the track I purchased?
You can download all related files immediately after your purchase. We also email you a one-time download link for a download later.
How can I remove the audio tag from the track?
A "tagged beat" is a demonstration version of an instrumental that contains distinct audio watermarks that typically play throughout the entire track. The purpose of a producer tagging his/her instrumental is to prevent piracy and to encourage serious recording artists to purchase a license.
To get a tag-free audio please make sure you purchase a license which features "untagged audio".
I purchased a $1 download, why is the beat still tagged?
Beats purchased for $1 in our store are meant for streaming and demo use only, just like downloads from iTunes store or Amazon music.
To license a beat without audio tag and to use in a professional manner please buy a license from this page. Usually those are $25 and up.
What is a stem / trackout file?
A Stem file is an audio file that contains a track split into several musical elements: A drums stem, a bassline stem, a harmony stem, and a lead stem for example.
The Stem file also usually includes the original stereo master of the track for standard playback.
Why would I need a stem / trackout file?
A trackout file gives you much better control. Imagine you rap over a beat and you realize the percussions take the focus away from your vocals. With a trackout file you can simply tone down the percussion and the focus is now on the vocals. With a trackout file you have much more flexibility and a whole different level of control.

Band/artist history
"Asian-American punk rocker and YouTuber Patrick Lew and his crossdressing alter-ego Madeline...Aspire to change the rock and roll game." The Patrick Lew Band (PLB) is a pioneering virtual rock project founded in 2001 by San Francisco based musician Patrick Lew Hayashi. Emerging long before the rise of digital avatars, virtual idols, or AI-driven artistry, PLB became one of the earliest and longest-running examples of a fully realized internet-born band. Rooted in punk, grunge, and alternative rock, and later expanding into experimental and digital forms, the project has stood at the intersection of music, identity, and online culture for more than two decades. What began as a raw, DIY garage project gradually evolved into a complex creative universe. Through fictional band members, shifting personas, and narrative-driven releases, PLB challenged conventional ideas of authorship and performance. Central to this evolution was the creation of alter egos such as Madeline Lew, a character that allowed Patrick Lew to explore themes of identity, alienation, emotion, and self-expression in ways traditional band formats could not contain. Long before virtual artists became mainstream, PLB was quietly building a mythology across platforms like MySpace, YouTube, and later TikTok, treating the internet itself as a living stage. Musically, the project defied easy categorization. Across its extensive catalog, PLB blended punk urgency, grunge rawness, J-pop melodies, and experimental textures, reflecting both the evolution of the internet and the artist behind it. The band’s work was never designed for polish or commercial perfection. Instead, it embraced imperfection, vulnerability, and authenticity, resonating deeply with a global cult audience drawn to its honesty and emotional weight. Over the years, Patrick Lew balanced his artistic output with everyday life, creating music outside traditional industry structures while maintaining complete creative control. This independence became a defining trait of PLB’s legacy. Without major-label backing or corporate support, the project endured for over two decades through sheer persistence, vision, and community connection. In 2025, Patrick Lew officially retired the Patrick Lew Band, marking the end of an era. The conclusion was not an ending but a transformation. The project’s spirit continues through Lewnatic and a series of archival and commemorative releases, including the forthcoming single “20 Years Later, scheduled for release in July 2026. Today, PLB is widely regarded as one of the earliest and most influential examples of a virtual band created entirely outside the traditional music industry framework. More than a band, the Patrick Lew Band stands as a cultural document of the internet age, a testament to how identity, art, and technology can merge into something deeply personal and enduring. Its legacy lives on as proof that authenticity, imagination, and persistence can shape a movement long before the world is ready to understand it. Have you performed in front of an audience?
Nah, we're just bedroom producers and do live-streaming. That's all. We been doing that since 2020. We're too much in the year 2050 to go on tour or play a show anywhere (NOTE: We need a Madeline Lew hologram onstage), and a lot of the stuff we do can't be done live in the year 2024 yet on a budget.
