Oren Productions is owned and operated by Derek Oren. Derek has been sampling, editing, and arranging orchestral music ever since he was 14 years old. With the advancement of technology in the past few years, it's now possible to create highly realistic orchestral works just from samples. Derek takes advantage of this technology to create and edit his music.
Why this name?
It was easy as "Oren" is my last name.
Do you play live?
I sample and edit out of my home.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's changed it for the better. Now composers and artists who would have never been able to get their music heard because of record labels, can now promote themselves and also with street teams. It's a great thing.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
In my area of music I really don't think there's any such thing as a record label.
Band History:
Oren Productions was founded in 2007 but I have been arranging, composing, and doing sound design since 1994.
Your influences?
Jeremy Robson was my inspiration for starting to sample with the new current technology. But other influences classically are: Howard Shore, Elliot Goldenthal, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Nobuo Uematsu, Dvorak, others that I can't think of right now.
Favorite spot?
Eisenstadt, Austria. Right outside of the Esterhazy Mansion enjoying some wine after a performance in the Schloss.
