My band is just me and my fiddle. I started learning to play after my 65th birthday, and I haven't had this much fun since I discovered girls. I don't consider myself a good fiddler, but be grateful, I ain't as bad as I was. The tunes put up on this site will be mostly old tunes selected for two reasons. First, because I like the tune, and second, I can play the tune at a level that it is recognizable.
Why this name?
I selected "Old Man And A Fiddle" because that's exactly what this is.
Do you play live?
I play live every chance I get. I have played at Carver's Bluegrass Festival at Atlanta, Texas, The Strange Family Bluegrass Park in Texarkana, Texas, The Cypress Creek Bluegrass Festival in Adona, Arkansas, and various small time fiddle contests in Texas.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the internet makes more music available to more people. I like to hear people play at all levels and I can do that on the interner. Does this change the industry? Yes, in the same way that a rising tide lifts all boats.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Frankly, I do not play at a level that would justify such action.
Band History:
This "operation" is new. My history is learning how to tune the fiddle and where to put the fingers.
Your influences?
I am influenced most by the "hillbilly" music of the 40's that I listened to in my youth.
Favorite spot?
Mt. Ida, Arkansas is a quiet little town with live music on the Square every Saturday afternoon.
Equipment used:
I play fiddles made by W. W. "Skinny" Trammell of Lone Star, Texas. I have his first and twenty-third fiddles.
Anything else...?
This music is all about fun to me. I enjoy playing and listening to accoustic music, especially fiddle tunes.
