Cool Like You Cool Like You

One of the most important "life lessons" out there is to be happy with yourself and who you are. Too many of us spend too much time trying to do the opposite.

Temporary Insanity Temporary Insanity

This seems at first to be just another song about getting drunk and scoring... but it's not. Listen up, because the theme is one that is surprisingly not frequently addressed.

Now is the time. Here is the place. This is a brand-new Hamilton-area band , playing melodic rock that continues to be quite popular, given the success of bands like Good Charlotte and Velvet Revolver. The band's goal is to play live as much as possible, and to sell copies of their debut CD, due for completion in early 2005. The songs are the focus in Now.Here.This., where Chris' aggressively melodic approach to writing is heavily inspired by the lyrical musings of Moe Berg (The Pursuit of Happiness) and the gritty hook-laden material of the Goo Goo Dolls. Brian's Beatle-esque approach to writing blends well with strong melodies to create equally memorable material. Now.Here.This.' focus has been on assembling the right blend of musicianship and personalities to put together a live show, and on recording songs for the CD. Some of the songs that are to be featured in the project have received rotation on Canadian campus radio. One song had a video made for it that was featured in a compilation video promoting Hamilton-area independent bands. An early live performance of some of the material was broadcast live on the internet, and gained positive feedback from people as far away as California and Belgium!! Chris Tondreau is the singer/guitarist. He has an honours degree in classical guitar under the study of internationally-acclaimed guitarist, Peter McAllister, and is influenced by a range of players from Andres Segovia to Angus Young, Vernon Reid, and Brian MacLeod. He also plays bass, some keyboards, and most orchestral and percussion instruments. He has spent the last six years studying the Bel Canto vocal technique with Edward Johnson, a former tenor with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, who also taught Brian Vollmer (Helix) and Daniel Lanois. Brian Salvatore has gained respect and success himself as a songwriter. He has written dozens of songs. His songs have earned him some significant chart success on campus radio, and a place in an industry showcase festival, with his bands Pieces of Milk and Dogsnest. He has been playing guitar in bands for over 20 years. With his influences including the Beatles, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew and David Gilmour, it is not surprising that he has a highly-developed sense of texture, which he contributes to the band. Mark Fenton has been laying down the bass grooves for over 20 years in both cover and original bands. His musical awareness of playing what fits the song is an asset earned through experience and taste. He contributed bass parts to the highly critically-acclaimed Bruce Hotchkies album, "A Different Point Of View," and received an enthusiastic introduction by Alan Cross and commercial radio play as a part of The Truth Hurts. He cites caffeine and vodka as his main influences. Timothy David has been alive for 20 years. Yes, he is the youngest member of Now.Here.This., but has a range of experience and a sense of taste beyond his years. He teaches guitar, has done session work for a variety of artists on drums and guitar, and has worked musically with Colin James, Jann Arden and other notable Canadian musicians. He plays drums and also serves as the band's "hip and happening" consultant. Now.Here.This. is committed to the most important aspect of any band - connecting the material to their audience through live performance. This is where fans are earned for life, and this is where the band, with their extensive stage experience, will truly shine.
Anything else?
"...songs are very strong....melodies and catchy choruses..." - Brian Vollmer (vocals, Helix) commenting on Chris' songwriting "These are too good...." - Matt Hayes (TV/Radio personality) commenting on Brian's songwriting "Whoa, that's excellent.... when you're playing live, I'll be there!" - Tim Boileau (sound engineer, Sarasin) "...let me know when ya'll have a gig in Atlanta, i want passes!" - "Fender" via internet feedback "...right off the bat my leg is pumpin' up and down...cool vibe...makes me wanna get up...Hey, you guys kick ass!...'topher's got some pipes, ain't he? Steve Perry would vomit with jealousy...GREAT guitar break...doesn't over do it at all...nice and easy love it... Nice job on drums...Great drumming ...any time a guitarist can solo with just drums and bass and no rhythm guitar, you know he's gotta be good!!! Haven't heard much of that since 1989. KICK AZZ!!!" - various reviewers, Homerecording.com
