Story behind the song
The real John Hardy was hanged for murder in West Virginia in 1894. This track was recorded live at Eric's last public performance. That was at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City on July 8, 2007. It appears of the ensemble CD, "Open Your Hearts to the Paradise: the Best of the Woody Guthrie Birthday Bash. New York City 2001-2008." The old-time banjo frailing is by Eric, while the harmonica part is by Steve Suffet.
