Story behind the song
My name is Jesse Tinsley, age 42, and I live in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with wife Honey Jean and two boys, Colby, 6, and Rogan, 2. I am half-Hawaiian (mom!) and mainland born and raised. Because both my parents play guitars/ukes, I've been strumming guitars for fun since I was 10, seriously for the past 5-7 years. I own several guitars, nothing fancy, and some ukes, along with basses, a mandolin, a keyboard and a steel guitar. Recently I started building ukuleles as a hobby. I love Hawaiian music and play it whenever I can. I didn’t' really play slack key until recently, and I learned a lot attending part of George Kahumoku's Slack Key Camp 2004. The camp gave me a new love for slack key, which I only dabbled in until this year. My future recordings will be in taro patch tuning. "Kanaka Waiwai" is one of my Mom's favorite songs and a nice hymn taken from Bible text. Hui 'Ohana's live version is one of my favorites. Tuning: Standard
