monteau is:

001 / a word.
002 / a concept.
003 / a sound.
004 / p. diddy's secret glitch electronics alias
005 / none of the above.
006 / all of the above.

the choice is entirely yours.
Why this name?
i was walking through a nearly vacant city park one autumn evening and all of the sudden a boozed-up hobo appeared out of the darkness with these prophetic words: ye shall christen thy wretched digital alterego monteau or else ye fate shall be a dire one of producing chart-topping top 40 slowjam schmaltz until the end of ye days.

moreover, the minimal easthetic of the music called for something which would be the semantic equivalent of the aural side of the project. hence monteau. delicate, somewhat fleeting, vaguely french in appearance, yet all the while not so. absurd. abstract. having a semblence of meaning all the while remaining entirely meaningless. or something like that.
Do you play live?
no. at least for the time being. but i'm much looking foreward to an opportunity to either utterly irritate or lull the potential audience to sleep. noise terrorists of the world, unite!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
poor RIAA! i have nothing but pity for their ever expanding multimilliondollar conglomerate consortium behinds.

more on point, the internet has democratized it all, as the ability to release music to an audience outside of one's own friends and family has become available to virtually anyone in possession of the technological means to make one's musical creations available online.
from distribution to promotion, it has on the one thing complicated things to a certain degree, as it is becoming increasingly difficult to rise above the herd, but all the while it has facilitated everything, making the quality of the music the principal focus, over image and influence which comes with, say, a major label financial backing. perhaps the most positive thing to arise out of it all is that finally the ways by which music is created and distributed have become available to the masses. at long last the elites are slowly but surely crumbling and music is reclaiming its rightful purpose as a creation made by the people and for the people.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
i'd sell my soul to the dark lord himself just to get a #1 hit and overkill MTV videospins and clearchannel radio airoverplay. where the hell do i sign?!?

on a serious note, however, seeing as the music i create is not exactly of the commercial variety, and thereby it is not likely to be a profit-making cashcow, it is highly unlikely this would ever come to be.
Your influences?
lusine icl. l'ombre. woob. biosphere. mileece. third eye foundation. amon tobin. akufen. all things warp: autechre. boards of canada. chris clark. plaid. etc. other fine electronic labels such as: hymen. ant-zen. soleilmoon.
Favorite spot?
venice, italy. a sight to behold each and every time. alternately, george dubya's texas ranch will do just fine.
Equipment used:
pots and pans. bleeps and beeps. any and all sounds which intrigue my auditory senses. all fed through all manner of software making for a healthy helping of musical goods.
