Michel Griffin's work redefines the boundary between poetry and song. A few insights, not too much introspection - and lots of lovely melody, too !
Why this name?
It's more or less my name!!
Do you play live?
I love playing live. (I gave up playing dead when I was a kid!)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet democratises everything that it touches, and removes geographical barriers. For musicians, it's a great way to share their music with an ever-growing public, and to make contact with other musicians.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course! :-) If they'd agree to my terms!
Band History:
I began writing songs to the guitar at the age of 14 and gently graduated to piano and orchestral work. With my recent CDs, I have gone back to my roots, and am once more writing and arranging songs.
Your influences?
Leonard Cohen, Rachmaninov, Kris Kristofferson, Chopin, The Eagles, Bob Dylan, Mozart, John Mayall, Joni Mitchell, Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits, Robert Schumann, Eric Clapton, Cream, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Paxton, Sandy Denny, Judy Collins .....
Favorite spot?
Paris.
Equipment used:
Mostly my hands, brain and heart, but the eyes and ears are also essential. Each of us has a caged bird in their heart: it is the artist's task to set it free and let it soar, if only for a moment ...
Anything else...?

In August 2006, I was interviewed by Soundclick's
Country Rose
. Here's the interview in play hi-fi hi-fi or play lo-fi lo-fi.
