Richard Brobst is a singer/songwriter in the "americountry"/progressive country musical genre. Keith Bradford, from KMA Records, called his songs "americountry" as they combine americana lyrics set to a country band. KMA produced his latest CD, "Might Be Today."
His lyrics and delivery also differ from pure country. He puts more emphasis on imagery than hook lines. Richard is really not a country singer--more folkish. Richard has a number of influences--Prine, Cohen, Dylan, Cash, Woody Guthrie. He has been told that these are often reflected in his lyrics and vocals. Influences are influences.
Above all, Richard's lyrics are fresh and unique--a sound not found in today's country scene. His songs bring messages of simplicity to a hard world.
Besides music, Richard has been writing poetry for anthologies, text books, university jounals, etc. for 30 years. Poetry requires a keen observation of the subtleties of life, and his songs are an extension of his poetry.
