Progressive rock band X Contract's debut single and video "The Pain" from their new album "Dearest Dream" is definitely a winner. The leader singer has a beautiful and powerful voice, and he gives an awesome vocal performance on this track with a softness and subtlety that is perfect for this track. He sings the song well, and takes you on a ride, along with the video, that is full of surprises. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the cut is both musically and lyrically solid, in addition to being well arranged and produced. The band has a powerful guitar duo, a very strong drummer, and a great bassist holding it all in place with a strong, energetic sound. Nice hard breaks with pounding guitars keep the vibe moving from beginning to end. As the video unfolds, it shows the inner minds of people when they are treated badly. The words of the song tell the story, but the video shows it nicely! With a little soft porn and some violence, the video is both creative and captivating. A great track set to an innovative video performance is what X Contract has accomplished with "The Pain", which is sure to receive accolades from progressive, rock, and alternative music lovers.
