Working on new stuff ALL the time!!
HIP-HOP ARTIST / PRODUCER originally from Buffalo, NY. relocated to Tampa, FL at age 14. Became involved in the street scene, drugs, alcohol abuse until age 17 when he became a committed follower of Christ. He worked in radio for nearly 5 yrs, went to Bible college in New Orleans and graduated with an AA degree in Urban Missions. This high school drop-out turned college grad uses Hip-Hop music to communicate the message of Christ, sharing his life struggles, how to overcome them and works with artrists as a producer and engineer as well. He recorded Urban D's album "UN.ORTHODOX", as well as having produced the title track by the same name. Now available from EMI Gospel and Hip-Hop.
Why this name?
I loved the meaning - that you were handed down something valuable from a previous generetion or parent. The commission of Jesus to his disciples to "GO" and preach and how we are to do the same thing.
Do you play live?
I play live as much as I can. I will play almost anywhere within reason. A live perfomance is an incredible experience because it's about your audience just as much as it is about your music. One moment that I remember most is Flavor Fest 2002 - me and an MC named Nice rocked the stage and I was one of the very first acts that night. The crowd was live and the music was pumping, there was cameras as it was being filmed as well as radio and local television. A truly unique experience. After the set, a crowd came up to me and they were loving what I did AND what I was spitting.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I am excited about the future for Indie artists. I think we finally have a means to get music out there without the old-school gaurd keeping us out! I mean this thing has leveled the field and made the glass tower of the music industry take notice to the people making real music. People want real music and now they have to listen to the public and not just spoon feed them anymore. I can't wait to see it's impact 10 yrs from now.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
On my own terms. I can make music with or without them(Thanks to the web). I refuse to water down my message and let an A&R steer me from making the music that is in me. If they love my music then there should be an agreement that suits us both. I need them as much as they need me!
