I'll be conducting the Vancouver Miniaturist Ensemble in the premiere of "A Daydream of Robert Dziekanski" on December 10 at the Western Front, Vancouver. This is the debut concert of this new ensemble. Come on out to show your support for a great concept inspired by the New York Miniaturist Ensemble.

I perform on special nylon-stringed MIDI-capable guitars made by Quebec luthier Godin, specializing in their transformation by electronic and computer processing which I send out to as many loudspeakers as possible. I call my show the Immersive Sound Experience.
Why this name?
Name=name
Do you play live?
Play live solo show about once a year in the Vancouver area and try to organize tours to get my Immersive Sound Experience show out there. I also guest perform with chamber ensembles.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
So far it's allowing people to discover a lot of new music without the marketing middlemen hype, and that's great. When artists no longer need to stick themselves in a 'category' but are free to associate and evolve and do a lot of different things without worrying about 'genre,' then we'll all be free.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Why bother?
Band History:
I started back in the 1980s writing and performing music for live electronics (with synthesizers, microphones, etc.), instrument(s) and tape, and tape alone in the "Group of the Electronic Music Studio" (GEMS) out of McGill University. From 1991 to 1993, I played with the Vancouver group MORE (with Sergio Barroso, Lori Freedman, and Peter Hannan) and started the solo performance project involving guitars, MIDI guitar, computer, and electronics that this solo act is all about. In the fall of 1997 I performed across Canada in the Body Electric Festival and released a CD Icicle Blue Avalanche. I have performed with New Music Concerts, Vancouver New Music, Groundswell, Upstream, New Works Calgary, Music in the Morning, Standing Wave Ensemble, Ensemble Symposium, Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, BC Chinese Music Ensemble, the Sacred Music Festival, and New Music America, as well as with musicians/composers François Houle, Paul Dolden, Sergio Barroso, Mei Han, and Jeremy Berkman. In 2002 I toured 11 Canadian cities with my group Structural Damage with guest improvisers Ron Samworth, Kasuhisa Uchihashi, and Yoshiro Otani. I also play World Fusion in the Oliver Yu Duo.
Your influences?
For my solo act in particular, it's an experimental mix inspired by the sound of the oud, flamenco, John McLaughlin, Pat Methany Group, Robert Fripp, Xenakis, Gerard Grisey, Paul Dolden, ambient and World Music, processed through computer granular synthesis that you might say is "mid-Atlantic".
