Janson Michael Steffan expresses his emotions through blazing guitars, pounding keyboards, powerful vocals, and thundering drums. Rock and pop at its best, with a bit of a unique flavor. This is accomplished through his many years of experience in the music business. His first performance of original material was at age 8! Janson has a prowess on the guitar, but is also equally skilled in manipulating digital instruments and sequencing. All of his solo recordings were done in Killer Studios - Minneapolis, his self-owned facility. Previous bands include Big Nasty Meteors and mp3.com and iuma.com artist Moral Hazard. He is currently very active in the music industry with numerous bands and side projects, as well as his own solo material.
Do you play live?
I am always looking for a way of focussing my talents and my goals in music ministry for the good of the Lord. I am looking to stretch the boundaries of both my faith and my musical abillites. I'm am producing and recording albums for clients, as well as trying to find time to complete my second solo album. I generally play out 3-4 nights a week. Always interesting, always fulfilling.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet definitely has a way of affecting the manner in which people obtain their music, but it really shouldn't disrupt the music-making process. In fact, it helps people across the world maintain a great working relationship and progress through material even though they are thousands of miles apart. That has to be a good thing.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If I found a company with the dedication, vision, and belief in my music and ministry, I would consider signing with them.
Band History:
Previous bands include Big Nasty Meteors, Moral Hazard, the Overcomers, Nightlife, Top Priority, and Two Tears. I am currently very active in the music industry with numerous bands and side projects, as well as my own solo material.
Your influences?
I think the main thing that influences me in my music are my relationships with people. My family, my friends, my companions. It all gives me something to play or sing about. They inspire me and breath life into my songs. They are the driving force behind my personal musical growth. I also feel that my view of life is very unique, so that helps me to see different aspects of existence and convey them through music.

My main musical influences come from the guitar and vocal harmonies of groups like Boston and Queen, as well as the technical flash of Van Halen. My favorite guitarist on the planet would have to be Steve Vai. His constant creativity inspires me in my music.
Favorite spot?
I am happy devoting my life to Christian music and the ministry of God's word. Whether that is in Minnesota, the UK, Switzerland, Germany... that is not my concern. I go where I am called to go. Doors are opened and I pray for God's guidance as I make the decision to walk through them or pass them by.
Equipment used:
I work with many different brands of guitars and amps. My studio is full of many various pieces of gear. If you want to know about any of it, just ask me. I'd love to tell you technoids out there.
Anything else...?
I am a Christian, first and foremost. I am also a musician. I choose to play in worship teams and Christian bands for the sake of glorifying God's holy name and serving Him with the gifts He has given me. I choose to praise God through music because the Bible says so. "Make songs of praise to the Lord; make melody to our God with instruments of music." (Psalms 147:7) I choose to worthily magnify Christ with music because it can help other Christians deepen their worship experience and strengthen their faith. I choose to rock for the One who is the Rock because it is in my soul. I have been making music in church since I was old enough to sing. Whether it was with a choir or in a church musical, whether it was crankin' out some rock guitar or doing an instrumental duet with an oboe, I was acting as a faithful servant and a follower of Christ. My life is completely dedicated to music ministry.
