Rhyming for more than half his life, Jaiz has prospered into a talented and diverse Rap/Hip Hop artist. With disregard to commercial appeal, Jaiz focuses on making tracks with depth and meaning. Rap serves mainly as an outlet in which bottled up thoughts are released. Whether positive or negative, this artist has made an impact in underground music.
Why this name?
LOL Too long of a story haha The name sucks, but it stuck since 2001 I believe. Before then I went by Jay Jay.
Do you play live?
I performed live a couple of times but nothing serious. Just school talent shows from 2000-2003. But it was such an awesome feeling when the crowd's vibin' wit u, and feelin' u as an emcee. It gives you so much energy and confidence, and makes you want to perform more and more. I always got butterflies in my stomach before performing, but once your on stage and your doing your thing there is no better feeling in the world.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's a great way for new upcoming artists to get exposure. I think it's a very convenient, and quick way for people to get a song they really want. It's not like people have totally stopped all together with buying cd's.. True fans of artists/bands won't give up on buying their albums.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe back in 2000-2003. Now I just do it for fun nothing real serious.
Your influences?
I have to say my biggest musical influence is my brother. He was like my idol growing up and he was a poet, and a rapper/singer. I followed him into the same crafts. I have to say 2pac was an influence, as well as LL Cool J and eminem. Yea they are the biggest influences pretty much. I find myself more into the old school rap than a lot of the BS rap going on nowadays. Now it seems there's a lot more focus on style and fashion rather than actual artistic talent. It's ashame to know there are so many great artists in the underground that never make it. It's all about whats's marketable, and what will appeal to the crowd. I think it's a bunch of crap..
Favorite spot?
I haven't really traveled too much in my lifetime. But when I was young me and my family went down to Disney World twice, and stayed in Orlando, Florida. It's very nice down there, and averages around 75 degrees all year long. It's nice and warm, and doesn't get too much snow. I also like being down in North Wildwood during the summer. It's nice to walk on the boardwalk, and see many people of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures. Plus that nice sea-shore air gives you a nice feeling of ease and serenity.
