Why this name?
Howiespot is my production name, it is an old nick name that just stuck. Most people call me DJ Howie.....
Do you play live?
I am a DJ Producer from the UK. I have played along side Carl Cox, Fabio & Grooverider, Mikey Finn, Frankie Bones, Joey Beltram, Prodigy, Top Buzz, K Klass, Bizarre inc., N Joi the list goes on thanks to the promoters who have hired me.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Music should be easy to obtain by the public and the internet certainly does that. The internet also makes it easier for me to get direct feed back on my demo tracks but if the public want the finished product then please purchase the CD or Record. If you get your tunes from down load sites then go see the Producer in action and support them that way (or buy the T-shirt). As for the music industry it has been pimping producers/artists for too long let's hope they don't find a way of controlling the internet or it will be back to square one.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Not sure about signing a record contract unless it was enough money to pimp my ride. I don't mind White Label deals for pocket money but big money contracts is not really my motivation (Bling Bling is not my thing) I just love the music and a Jacob and Co Watch.
But seriously, it would depend on the contract on offer, of course, everyone dreams of getting signed to a big label.
Band History:
I have been DJ'ing in clubs since 87 and I have not looked back since. I was lucky enough to get a show on a legal UK radio station after numerous shows on various Pirate stations. My gigs went crazy in 1990 and since then I have had too many gigs to mention, all over the place.
Your influences?
My musical influence is mostly Underground Dance music since 1985, it has definately had some sort of effect on my brain along with various medications I have consumed. Clubbing had as much influence on me as music and I would say that the first part of my life was spent in night clubs and after club parties. Ian Lavine, Derek May and Carl Cox certainly changed my outlook on life.
Favorite spot?
I love London (Heaven) and New York (Paradise Garage RIP) as well as the early days in Ibiza (Space) Manchester (Hacienda RIP) and Hong Kong (Big Apple Wanchai)
Equipment used:
I use a Hubbly Bubbly Pipe week days and a Mirror to get my groove on during the weekends.
