This is an introduction to the band Hardline. We are the end result of nearly a decade’s effort by the song writing team of Stacy Sheppard and David Carruth. The two musicians meet in the early 1990’s while working in the construction field together, and discovered they had a mutual interest in music, and more specifically in developing their own original songs. After meeting several times to jam and discuss music, they found a kinship in their ideas and approach to music and, (perhaps more importantly) an instantaneous ability to blend and harmonize their artistic styles in improvisation. They soon decided to form a partnership in the interest of advancing their music, with the eventual goal of producing a full length C.D. of their best songs. Through a mutual friend they gained a drummer named Kurt Kemp, Whose dedicated support and innovative ideas gave the project a new and durable momentum.
Throughout their efforts, the band the band was severely limited by their day jobs, wich in David and Stacy’s case meant the long and difficult hours of building houses, roads and bridges. Up at and out of the house at dawn and not back until near dark on most summer days. With this exhaustive schedule, little or energy was left for practice, which came essentially to a halt in the busy summer construction season, and had to be picked back up with brief, intensive sessions in the winter months. The best they could hope for was the completion and recording of two or three songs a year.
The bands first C.D. “Two Dreams” seems a long time coming. Certanly they would rather devote themselves to their music than to hammering nails, or as the song Hard line suggests, “digging ditches and bustin up rocks.” They hope this smooth blend of country and rock will speak to all those out there hammering nails, or computer keyboards or cash registers or what ever they do to keep their heads above water, in what seems to be a hard world.
Sincerely,
Stacy, David & Kurt
